Ma Pi Leng Pass is located in Dong Van and Meo Vac communes, Tuyen Quang Province (formerly Dong Van and Meo Vac districts of Ha Giang Province). The pass lies along National Highway 4C and the Happiness Road, which connects Dong Van and Meo Vac. It is considered one of the most dangerous mountain passes in northern Vietnam due to its sharp curves and challenging terrain that truly test a driver’s skills.
The pass is also known as Ma Pi Leng or Ma Pi Leng, a name meaning “the bridge of a horse’s nose.” It is listed among Vietnam’s “four great mountain passes” that are truly worth conquering. Sitting at an elevation of around 1,200 meters above sea level and stretching approximately 20 kilometers (linking the ancient town of Dong Van with Meo Vac town), Ma Pi Leng winds and coils around the mountains like a white python. Traveling along this route, visitors will also pass through several ethnic villages and well-known places such as Pa Vi and Sin Cai.
